BURRILLVILLE – Monday, April 22, is Earth Day this year, and the theme for 2024 is, “Planet vs. Plastics.”

Plenty of children, teens and adults drink from plastic cups and bottles while out attending classic car and truck shows. I know this, because I see them drinking from plastic cups and bottles at these automotive events. I also see plenty of people drinking from plastic cups and bottles at area beaches, parks and events across the state and region most of the year.

It is very important to drink water and refreshing drinks while out in the heat and sunshine to stay hydrated and avoid heat stroke or dizziness but with this reality, comes a lot of plastic containers that needs to be disposed of accordingly. Plastic straws are another item that needs to be disposed of correctly. Never, ever, throw plastic cups, bottles and straws onto the ground or into any open water areas. Plastics need to be properly disposed of by tossing them into recycling barrels and containers. If you can’t find a recycling barrel or container near you, then simply put these plastics inside something inside your vehicle and dispose of these items when you arrive back home, or your destination.

Littering is a very bad thing to do, and it harms our planet. You should care about your city, town and community enough to not toss trash out onto the ground. Plastic can directly impact our ecosystem and potentially harm pets and wild animals that may ingest them if they are not properly disposed of in recycling barrels or containers.

When kids, teens and adults are attending car and truck shows and community events while drinking from plastic cups and bottles, please make sure to dispose of them properly into recycling barrels and containers. Let’s help out this Earth Day on Monday, April 22, by picking up plastics and litter in our cities, towns and communities on the sides of roads, parks, playgrounds, school grounds and open water ways to keep our planet and wild life cleaner and safer. Please don’t trash our planet.

Buckleupallofus and the Bus Stop Kids care about safety – but they also care about the planet too. So should you. Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated and dispose of those plastic cups and bottles properly.
