Blasting

The Glocester Police Department is notifying residents that preliminary blasting will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 at the Vinagro gravel pit site located at 812 Putnam Pike, as permitted.

Spring

With spring vacation week underway, the season has officially sprung in Glocester and Spring Grove Pond opened for fishing on Saturday, April 13. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management recently stocked the waters with trout.

Car meets Hill’s Tavern have also resumed and Harmony Rails is open this week for some spring break train rides.

Scavenger hunt

Glocester Heritage Gardens will be hosting a nature scavenger hunt to celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the side of the Job Armstrong House, weather permitting. Follow the sidewalk hopscotches from businesses including The Hen House, Trish Hampton and Whisky Pearl and collect an Earth Day themed treat.

Earth Day

Glocester’s annual Earth Day cleanup will take place on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. rain or shine. Volunteers will meet at the Kent Field Pavilion on Main Street in Chepachet at 9 a.m. to be assigned an area to clean, and bags and gloves will be provided, with the first 50 people to receive Glocester Earth Day t-shirts.

Music bingo

RE/MAX at 712 Putnam Pike in Chepachet will host Music Bingo on Saturday, April 20 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Snacks and drinks will be provided at the 21 plus event, which costs $5 per person. To sign up, call or text Daniele at (401) 749-1039.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee was expected to hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. No agenda for the meeting could be found.

The Board of Contracts & Purchases will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 17 starting at 3 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is expected to hold a meeting on Thursday, April 18 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is expected to be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website here.

The Glocester Planning Board has cancelled the workshop originally scheduled for this week.
