Eclipse viewing party

Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane will hold a Solar Eclipse Viewing Party on Monday, April 8 starting at 3 p.m. The library will have solar eclipse glasses available while supplies last and Galaxy Stress Balls available for kids. There will also be a live stream from NASA and Dinolicious food truck on site.

The total solar eclipse will be visible in Rhode Island from 2:15 to 4:38 p.m. and the max view in Burrillville – when the sun is most hidden – will occur at 3:28 p.m. Happy viewing – and do not look at it without proper eye protection or you’ll risk permanent eye damage.

Pasta dinner & raffle

After the eclipse, head over to Serio’s Pizzerama at 405 Church Street from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. for a pasta dinner and raffle fundraiser to benefit For Pete’s Sake & Rosie’s Two, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing recreational opportunities to children and adults with a variety of disabling conditions and illnesses.

Tickets cost $10, or $5 for children under 10, and include a dinner of pasta, meatballs, bread, beverage and dessert, with take out also available. To purchase, call Sandi Carter-Lafortune at (401) 568-2179 or get your ticket at the door.

Permit hearing

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management is providing notice of public hearing and extension of public comment period for the draft Title V Operating Permit renewal for the Algonquin Gas Transmission Co., Burrillville Compressor Station.

A public hearing will take place on Wednesday, April 10, at 5:30 p.m. at the Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library community room at 100 Tinkham Lane.

Cemetery cleanup

The Burrillville Historical & Preservation Society is hosting a cleanup of Hopkins/Potter/Marsh Cemetery, at the intersection of Howard Avenue and Charles Street in Pascoag, on Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m. to noon. Volunteers are advised to bring rakes; brush loppers; leaf blowers, tarps or carts to haul leaves; chain saws; hand saws; gloves and water to drink. The group is also asking those with trucks to show up to to haul leaves to the Whipple Compost Facility.

Storm damage assistance

The town of Burrillville Emergency Management Agency is notifying Burrillville residents that assistance is available through FEMA for individuals whose property was damaged during the storms that took place from December 17 through December 19, or January 9 through 13. Homeowners and businesses who sustained losses in this area due to wind or flooding can apply for assistance by registering at disasterassistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-3362 or through the FEMA app. 

FEMA also has a physical location set up at William Windsor Elementary School at 562 Putnam Pike in Greenville with hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

All applications for assistance must be submitted no later than Monday, May 20.

Farm music

Grace Note Farm at 969 Jackson Schoolhouse Road in Pascoag will hold the latest concert in the Music at the Farm series on Sunday, April 14 starting at 2 p.m., with violinist David Bernat and pianist Jiarong Li. Tickets cost $30 and can be purchased by calling (401) 567-0354.
