Eclipse
Today, Monday, April 8, there will be a total solar eclipse visible from Rhode Island from 2:15 to 4:38 p.m. The max view in North Smithfield – when the sun is most hidden – will occur at 3:29 p.m. Happy viewing – and do not look at it without proper eye protection or you’ll risk permanent eye damage.
Adult tennis
Registration is now open for North Smithfield Parks & Recreation’s adult tennis clinic to take place on Saturday mornings from April 20 to May 25 on the high school courts. The cost os $90 per person for six weeks, with beginners to play from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and an intermediate level from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Scam alert
The North Smithfield Police Department is advising residents not to fall victim to a new scam where criminals impersonate agents from the Social Security Administration Office of the Inspector General. The scammer will request to meet in person to collect cash, and will attempt to show identification that looks official.
Anyone who believes they may have been victim of this scam is advised to report the crime.
At the library

The North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service Inc. Board of Directors will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at 1470 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.
The North Smithfield Planning Board will hold a meeting on Thursday, April 11 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here. The meeting will be followed by a joint workshop with the North Smithfield Zoning Board at 7 p.m. for an agenda found here..
