On-ramp closing, flag raising & primary voting: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Primary

The Presidential Preference Primary takes place on Tuesday, April 2, and two polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. in North Smithfield: Town Hall at 83 Green St. and Scouter’s Hall at 13 Main St.

Route 146 changes

Starting Friday night, April 5 at 10 p.m., through the fall, the on-ramp from Route 146 South to I-295 North will be closed. Drivers should follow the signed detour. Expect a lane shift at the I-295 and 146 interchange Friday night from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. There will also be alternating lane closures for bridge construction from Exit 18A to Exit 18B on Friday from 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Palace reopens

The outdoor pavilion at Lindy’s Tavern known as the Plastic Palace reopens this week with live music starting on Friday, April 5. So Many Rhodes will play in the, “palace,” starting at 8 p.m. on Friday, and on Saturday, April 6, The Northeast Groove performs at 8. On Sunday, the outdoor venue will hold a meat raffle starting at 3 p.m.

Flag raising

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will raise the flag at Memorial Town Hall in honor of David McCutcheon following a brief ceremony at the building at 1 Main St. on Saturday, April 6. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on April 6 and will include remarks by members of the late veteran’s family, as well as local dignitaries. The Memorial Town Building will be available to participants before and after the event. All are invited to attend.

Town meetings

The Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 3 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
