Heating help, pasta dinner & FEMA assistance: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Apply for LIHEAP

Glocester residents are invited to apply for or renew heating assistance with Tri-County Community Action’s LIHEAP program on Wednesday, March 27. LIHEAP helps low income households pay their heating bills, offers weatherization services, and can assist in heating crisis situations. The event will be held at the Glocester Senior Center at 1210 Putnam Pike from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Storm damage assistance

The town of Glocester Emergency Management Agency is notifying residents that assistance is available through FEMA for individuals whose property was damaged during the storms in December 17-19 or January 9-13. Homeowners and businesses who sustained losses in the designated areas due to wind or flooding can apply for assistance by registering at disasterassistance.gov, by calling 1 800-621-3362 or through the FEMA app. The agency also plans to open a pop-up Disaster Recovery Center at Glocester Town Hall in the coming weeks, on dates to be announced.

All application for assistance must be submitted by Monday, May 20.

Chowder & Clam Cakes

The Chepachet Fire Department will be serving chowder and clam cakes on Friday, March 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. at 1170 Putnam Pike in Chepachet. Enjoy red chowder at $5 a bowl and cakes at $5 per half dozen until they sell out.

Pasta dinner

Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike will host a pasta dinner on Saturday, March 30 to benefit Joanne “Jojo” Beaulieu and family. Beaulieu, a mother of three, is currently battling stage 4 metastatic breast cancer.

Doors to the family-friendly fundraising event open at 2 p.m., with Down to Earth playing at 3:30 p.m., and Jukebox Heroes at 8:30. The event will also feature a pasta dinner, 50/50 raffle and raffle baskets. Admission is $25 per person, and children 10 and under are free.

Town meetings

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 26 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will not be holding their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, March 26.

The Glocester Town Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, March 27 starting AT 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Zoning Board meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, March 28 has been cancelled.
