PUD merger session, kindergarten registration & a short school week: Six things to know in Burrillville this week

Informational session

The Pascoag Utility District will hold a customer informational session regarding the proposed merger with the Harrisville Water Department on Monday, March 25 starting at 6 p.m. at 253 Pascoag Main St. The meeting will give customers a chance to get information about the proposed creation of a single entity, to be known as the Clear River Electric & Water District, and ask questions about the initiative prior to a vote scheduled for Wednesday, April 3.

Kindergarten registration

Registration for Burrillville residents entering kindergarten in September 2024 will be held on Wednesday, March 27 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. and Thursday, March 28 from 2 to 7:30 p.m. at AT Levy School at 135 Harrisville Main St. A child must turn five by September 1 to be eligible and documentation is required including proof of residency, an original birth certificate and records of immunization and a physical.

BDTC meeting

Residents are invited to attend the Burrillville Democratic Town Committee’s monthly meeting this week, to be held on Wednesday, March 27, starting at 6 p.m. in the conference room of Jesse Smith Memorial Library at 100 Tinkham Lane.

Most improved

Burrillville Middle School received recognition last week from Gov. Dan McKee and Education Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green for being among the Rhode Island schools to demonstrate the most improved average attendance rate from the previous week. Attendance at the school improved by 3.7 percent.

“The governor and commissioner express their gratitude and encouragement to all schools in Rhode Island for their ongoing efforts to prioritize attendance and reinforce the value of consistent learning experiences for all students,” noted a release on the recognition.

No school

On the subject of school attendance, Burrillville Public Schools are reminding students that there will be no school in the district on Good Friday, which is Friday, March 29, and next week on Tuesday, April 2, which is Primary Day. Burrillville elementary school students have an extra short week this week with no school on Thursday, March 28 for teacher professional development and parent-teacher conferences.

Town meetings

In addition to the above-mentioned informational session, the Pascoag Utility District will hold a Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, March 25 starting at 2 p.m. at the district office at 253 Pascoag Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 26 starting at 10 a.m. in the town building at 105 Harrisville Main St. The agenda is here.

The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 26 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room of Jesse Smith Memorial Library. The agenda is here.
