Northern, RI – Welcome to The Weekend, your weekly guide to all that’s happening – from live music, to book sales and crafting – in the northwest corner of the state.

Today is International Women’s Day and some local establishments – including Hill’s, Dev’s and Toti’s Taverns – are offering specials in honor of the celebration.

Don’t forget to spring forward this Sunday as the clocks move ahead.

Friday, March 8

Fish Fry, Shrine of the Little Flower/St. Therese’s, 35 Dion Drive, Harrisville, 4-7 p.m. Dine in or take out every Friday during lent.

Spring Grand Wine Tasting, North Smithfield Liquor Warehouse, 928 Victory Highway, Slatersville, 4:30-7:30 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments with dozens of wines featured at the event, which is free and open to anyone age 21 and over.

Open Gaming Night, Jesse Smith Memorial Library 100 Tinkham Lane, Harrisville, 5-8 p.m. The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition presents game night for youth in grades 6 through 12. Strict “no in-and-out” policy.

Entertainment For All, The Assembly Theatre, 26 East Ave., Harrisville, 7 p.m. An evening to celebrate accessibility and support R.A.M.P. – Real Access Motivates Progress. Tickets cost $20 and can be purchased here.

Saturday, March 9

Mammoth Mill Park Spring Cleanup, Mill Street at Canal Street, North Smithfield, 9 a.m. Volunteers will join members of the North Smithfield Heritage Association to continue ongoing cleanup of the park.

Book sale, Jesse Smith Memorial Library, 100 Tinkham Lane, Harrisville, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Stillwater room. Pete the Cat Party for Kids, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Drop in at the Children’s Department for headband making, gift bags and more.

Knitting Circle, The Hen House, 1189 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, 10 a.m.-noon Every Saturday. Bring in any project – knit, crochet, or other needlework – you are working on. The group also enjoys doing yarn swaps, needle/hook swaps and book/pattern swaps.

Teen volunteer hours, North Smithfield Public Library, 20 Main St., Slatersville, 10 a.m.-noon. Volunteer opportunity for those in grades 6-12, looking for community service hours. View more information here. 

Low light training course, Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club, 10 a.m. -2 p.m. Designed for novice through experienced firearms users who want to increase their skills while shooting in diminished light conditions, with live fire component. Seed Starting Workshop, Burrillville Seventh Day Adventist Church, 854 Victory Highway, Burrillville, 2 p.m. Carol Horta, master gardener and president of the Gentian Garden Club will run the event, which is free and open to the public.
