Scholarship, authors visit & police station meeting: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Congratulations to the Ponaganset High School wrestling team for their win of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League Wrestling State Championship.

Scholarship

The Glocester Lions Club has announced that applications are now open for their 2024 scholarship program. Applications can be picked up at the Ponaganset High School Guidance Department and mailed to PO Box 236 Chepachet RI 02814. The scholarship is open to residents of Glocester and the deadline is May 1.

Dog licenses

The town of Glocester is notifying residents that dog licenses are due in the month of April. To obtain a dog license, you must show proof of rabies inoculation. Dog licenses can be obtained in the Town Clerk office at 1145 Putnam Pike Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fee is $7.

Authors visit

The Glocester Heritage Society has announced that the Job Armstrong Store at 1181 Putnam Pike will be open on Saturdays from March 2 through July 27 from noon to 4 p.m. The events will feature book fairs along with different local authors. This Saturday, March 9, authors in attendance will include Debra Zanelli, Brianna Stockwell, William Boffi and Jed Griswold.

Live music

The week, The Hitmen will perform at Hill’s Tavern at 417 Putnam Pike from 2-6 p.m., and So Many Rhodes will play from 8 p.m. to midnight. On Sunday, the bar will feature The Rat Pack Experience followed by a meat raffle.

At Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike, Gullet will play starting at 8 p.m. Friday night, and and Neal & the Vipers will play Saturday starting at 8 p.m. On Sunday, the tavern offers Roadhouse Blues weekly starting at 3 p.m.

Town meetings

The Foster-Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 5, with open session starting at 7 p.m. in the library of Ponaganset High School at 137 Anan Wade Road. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Planning Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, March 5 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday, March 6 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike for discussion of police station replacement or renovation. The agenda is here.

The Economic Development Commission will hold a meeting on on Wednesday, March 6 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
