Wine tasting, youth art & self defense: Seven things to know in North Smithfield this week

Art exhibition

The North Smithfield Art Committee along with public school art teachers will host a kickoff of a new Youth Art Exhibition at Town Hall at 83 Green St. on Thursday, March 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. Student art will be showcased at Town Hall through the month of March. Visitors March 7 will have the chance to complete an art scavenger hunt and enter a free raffle.

Softball

North Smithfield Girls Softball has opened registrations for the 2024 season and parents are encouraged to sign up their girls for spring. NSGS offers a recreation level softball program for players aged 4 and up.  Registration fees range from $75 to $125 based on age division.

At the work space

Good Working at 585 Smithfield Road will host a workshop on unlocking business growth with the help of AI on Wednesday, March 6 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The interactive workshop will guide participants through the fundamentals of AI technology, practical applications across various business functions and actionable strategies to integrate AI into operations. On Thursday, the shared workspace will host Game Night for Business Professionals featuring Jackbox games, pizza and refreshments. Read more here.

Wine tasting

North Smithfield Liquor Warehouse at 928 Victory Highway will host a Spring Grand Wine Tasting on Friday, March 8 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Enjoy light refreshments with dozens of wines featured at the event, which is free and open to anyone age 21 and over.

Spring cleanup

Volunteers will join members of the North Smithfield Heritage Association to continue ongoing cleanup of the Mammoth Mill Park on at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 9.  The park is located at the intersection of Canal Street and Mill Street in North Smithfield.

Self defense

North Smithfield Park & Recreation is sponsoring a free student self defense class, to be held on Wednesdays March 13 and 20 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., as well as separately on Saturday, March 23 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Students will learn self protection skills, gain confidence and have fun in the class, taught by Kodokai Dojo at 175 Eddie Dowling Highway. The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, March 4 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
