Northern, RI – It’s a long, President’s Day weekend and the start of winter break for Rhode Island students, and there’s plenty happening in northern Rhode Island.

Welcome to the return of, The Weekend, our roundup of all the best events, activities and entertainment you can find right here in a three-town radius.

This weekend, there are several courses for those interesting in learning or sharpening their shooting skills. Are knitting or crafting more your speed? Check out a knitting circle or workshop for the kids.

Friday, February 16

Open Game Night, Jesse Smith Memorial Library, 100 Tinkham Lane, Harrisville, 5 to 8 p.m. The Burrillville Prevention Action Coalition event is open to youth in grades 6th through 12 featuring OneUp Games and has a strict, “no in and out,” policy.

Down to Earth, Pascoag Cafe, 150 Main St., Pascoag, 8 p.m.- midnight. No cover.

Saturday, February 17

Heritage Walk, exploring Booth Pond, Pine Hill and Souza Farm, North Smithfield, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host a walk with participants to meet at the Aldi’s parking lot at Dowling Village.

Community yoga class, Good Working, 585 Smithfield Road, North Smithfield, 10-11 a.m. Suitable for beginners. Participants are instructed to bring a yoga mat and water bottle, and wear comfortable clothes. Instructor Ashley Sarji will lead the group in light abdominal work, bodyweight resistance and stretching.

Red Dot Pistol Course, Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club, 200 Brook Road, Harrisville, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Learn how to use pistol mounted optics for self-defense with a live fire component. Cost is $50 for members and $75 non-members. Register & pay to reserve a seat at https://forms.gle/bSA8FK9hSoXkwkxd8

Knitting Circle, The Hen House, 1189 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, 10 a.m.-noon Every Saturday. Bring in any project – knit, crochet, or other needlework – you are working on. The group also enjoys doing yarn swaps, needle/hook swaps and book/pattern swaps.

Teen volunteer hours, North Smithfield Public Library, 20 Main St., Slatersville, 10 a.m.-noon. Volunteer opportunity for those in grades 6-12, looking for community service hours. View more information here. 

Mandala Dot Art, The Art of You, 73 Eddie Dowling Highway, North Smithfield, 1-2:30 p.m. Fee is $10 per child and $15 per adult.

Meat raffle, The Island, 1600 Victory Highway, North Smithfield, 3 p.m. Tickets are 6 for $5 and can be purchased in advance at the bar.

Range Safety Officer, Wallum Lake Rod & Gun Club, 200 Brook Road, Harrisville, 10 a.m.- 6 p.m. Learn roles and responsibilities of an RSO; Range Standard Operating Procedures; range inspection; range rules; range briefings; emergency procedures; and firearm stoppages and malfunctions. Mammoth Mills Park Cleanup, Mill Street, North Smithfield, 9 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will meet to continue the cleanup with the North Smithfield Heritage Association. All are asked to join. Questions can be directed to Richard Keene at (401) 447-6394.
