Blood drive

The Glocester Police Department will hold a blood drive at Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 1 to 5 p.m. To make an appointment to donate, visit ribc.org/drives and use sponsor code 5089.

Cheer competition

The Ponaganset cheerleading squad will be hosting their 5th annual cheerleading competition on Saturday, Feb. 10 at the high school at 137 Anan Wade Road. The event is a fun-filled day of vendors, raffles, the cheer competition and more. Vendors open at 10 a.m., with the competition to begin at noon.

This year, the squad will also offer flower grams, with an opportunity to surprise a cheerleader or coach one with a little something special. Flowers can be picked up the day of the event or delivered, and can be ordered in advance here for $2. Flowers will also be available to order the day of the event on a first come, first serve basis.

Pantry needs

Grace’s Food Pantry at Glad Tidings Community Church is now helping more than 15 families every two weeks and is in need of supplies. The donation-only based food pantry receives no funding or resources from Rhode Island food bank or government.

Pantry organizers say they are low on staple items and are asking for community help. Items needed include: pasta and pasta sauce; rice; pasta and rice sides packets; kids snacks; shelf milk; any breakfast foods such as pancake mix, cereal and oatmeal; canned fruit and vegetables; peanut butter and jelly; canned pastas; instant mashed potatoes and gravy; juices; soups; and freezer items.

Donations can be left at the bin at Glad Tidings Community Church.

Adult derby

The event is next week, but it’s time now to get your car ready.

Chepachet Pack 1 is hosting an adult derby car race on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. at Chepachet Union Church. A $25 entry fee will include the car and $5 dollars towards a cash prize to the 1st place winner, with the prize amount to be determined based on the number of entries. The remainder of the fee will be donated to Pack 1, with cash and PayPal accepted.

Those interested are asked to message Pack 1 on Facebook or text Ken at (401) 743-7054.

Entry fee must be received at time of pickup of car kit. For a full list of rules visit the Pack on Facebook.
