NORTH SMITHFIELD – North Smithfield police have issued an arrest warrant for a 41-year-old Lincoln man who reportedly fled the scene of a traffic stop where officers found narcotics earlier this month.

According to police, Matthew Daignault ran into a heavily wooded, marshy area by Hilltop Motel after throwing a brown leather case containing 21.7 grams of suspected crack cocaine broken up into individual baggies, along with 9 grams of suspected fentanyl, also bagged separately.

Daignault was reportedly in the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked at the motel on Tuesday, Dec. 12, when the ar attracted police attention because plates did not match the registration. Police and a K-9 unit searched the woods surrounding the Eddie Dowling Highway business but were reportedly unable to locate the suspect.

An arrest warrant has been issued for obstructing an officer, along with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. Anyone with information regarding Daignault or his whereabouts is asked to contact the North Smithfield Police Department at (401) 762-1212.
