NORTH SMITHFIELD – The weather outside was, indeed, frightful, but inside Town Hall on Sunday, Dec. 10, all was delightful.
North Smithfield’s annual Christmas tree lighting took place amid cold winds and heavy rains, leaving student carolers and others to cancel participation. But Mother Nature couldn’t stop St. Nick from spreading good cheer.
Santa arrived via firetruck escort provided by North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service and quickly lit the tree, before he and the small group assembled at the gazebo headed to shelter inside Town Hall. There, families enjoyed a visit with the North Pole resident, along with hot chocolate provided by Saint Antoine Residence, cookies, ornament making, dancing, singing, carols and pictures.
