Deer hunting, listening session & a Color Fun Walk: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Listening session

The town of Glocester is inviting residents to attend a listening session on Thursday, Sept. 28 to get feedback on plans for Glocester Memorial Park and Winsor Park. Town officials are in the process of preparing a master plan for the parks and want feedback on Glocester’s current and future recreation needs. The presentation and feedback session will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall 1145 Putnam Pike.

Residents are also asked to weigh in on town recreation via a short survey that can be found here.

T-shirt fundraiser

The Ponaganset High School Class of 2025 is holding a breast cancer awareness t-shirt fundraiser with proceeds to go to class activities, along with a donation to the Gloria Gemma Foundation. The custom shirts cost $12 and are available for pre-order through () Oct. 6 here or by contacting Mrs. Serra at vserra@fgschools.com.

Students will wear the custom t-shirts on Pink Out Day on Friday, Oct. 27.

Hunting season begins

The Williams Mills Conservation Area will be open for the hunting of deer and wild turkey for the 2023 fall and spring hunting season starting on Sunday, Oct. 1 and ending May 19, 2024. All hunters must follow regulations from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management and obtain a courtesy card from the Glocester Town Clerk’s office.

Color Fun Walk

Oakleaf Family Campground at 43 Oak Leaf Way in Chepachet will hold a Color Fun Walk through the campground on Saturday, Sept. 30 starting at 10 a.m. The cost is $30 to walk and $10 for each additional family member, with all funds go to Operation Stand Down to help veterans in need. The event is open to the general public as well as campers and walkers can preregister by calling (401) 568-4446.

Town meetings

The Glocester Recreation Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 26 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Board of Contracts & Purchases will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 27 starting at 10 a.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Historic District Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 27 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Zoning Board meeting originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 28 has been cancelled. The board’s next meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26.

Bonus ‘thing’:

Thanksgiving drive

Grace’s Food Pantry is now collecting donations for Thanksgiving baskets, with more than 40 baskets to go to local families in need for the holiday. Items needed include large aluminum roasting pans with handles, instant potatoes, boxed dessert, cranberry sauce, jars of gravy and $25 gift cards. Those with donations can contact Gracespantry@gmail.com to have the items picked up or drop them off in the foyer of Glad Tidings Community Church at 111 Victory Highway.
