Outrageous pumpkins, first bond forum & pickleball: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Family game night

North Smithfield Public Library will host a family game night on Wednesday, Sept. 20 starting at 6 p.m. at the library at 20 Main St. in Slatersville. No registration is required for the program, and families are invited to drop in and play.

First bond forum

The first of several forums aimed at educating the public about the upcoming vote on a bond to build a new police station will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. Officials from both the Municipal Building Review Task Force and Tecton Architects will be on hand to offer a presentation and answer any questions about the $18 million initiative, set to appear on a ballot in town at a special election to be held on Tuesday, Nov. 7.

Outrageous pumpkins

Catch North Smithfield resident Cassie Remillard on Food Network this week, when she competes on the show Outrageous Pumpkins. Remillard, a marketing director and artist/owner of Cass Creative, is one of eight contestants who will carve pumpkins in the season premiere on Sunday, Sept. 24 starting at 10 p.m. for the chance to win $25,000.

“She loves pumpkins, because they rot and disappear,” noted a contestant intro for the show. “As an artist, she really likes to express herself through animated faces. In fact, she uses a mirror to copy her own facial expressions onto her pumpkins.”

Pickleball

The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department has announced that registration is now open a fall adults pickleball session with coach Marissa Petrone. Classes in the eight week session will be held on Sundays from September 24 through November 12 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. and cost $130. Registration can be found here.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19 starting at 6:30 p.m.in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

In addition to hosting the forum noted above with the MBRTF on Wednesday, the North Smithfield Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 19 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
