Power outage, Save a life & a Friday concert: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Power outage

Rhode Island Energy is notifying residents of a planned outage scheduled for Tuesday, August 29 between 11 p.m. and approximately 5 a.m. The streets affected by the planned outage include Black-Plain Road, Chelsea Drive, Courtney Drive, Jennifer Lane, Laurel Lane and Tifft Road.

In the event of inclement or extreme weather or unexpected events, Rhode Island Energy will rescheduled the work for Tuesday, Sept. 5 for the same time period.

Save a life

Registration is now open for a free, 2.5 hour life saving program, to be held at Scouter’s Hall on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The free CPR/Stop the Bleed /First Aid course is limited to the first 50 participants, and registration is required by calling Town Hall at (401) 767-2200 ext. 301

Friday concert

The North Smithfield Parks and Recreation Department has rescheduled one of the rained-out dates in the Summer Concert Series to this Friday, Sept. 1. Cee Cee & the Riders will play a free show at the gazebo at Town Hall at 83 Green St. starting at 6 p.m. Food trucks are expected to be on site and residents are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy the entertainment.

Athletic passes

The North Smithfield Athletic Association has announced that season passes to Northmen home games for the 2023/2024 season are now available for purchase. The cost is $50 for a family pass, $20 for a single pass or $5 for general admission. Passes can be purchased at home games and include entrance to all home games on school grounds. North Smithfield students get in free.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Historic District Commission will hold a meeting on Monday, August 28 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Town Building at 1 Main St. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Municipal Buildings Review Task Force will hold a joint meeting with the Town Council on Thursday, August 31 starting at 7:15 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
