The North Smithfield Heritage Association received a $2,000 grant from the North Smithfield Ambulance Association for the restoration of the Forestdale School. Victory Day

North Smithfield Town Hall will be closed on Monday, August 14 to observe Victory Day and there will be no trash or recycling pick up. Trash and recycling collection will be postponed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Tax extension

The due date for the first quarter payment for real estate taxes in town has been extended from Tuesday, August 15 to Friday, Sept. 1 following a vote last week by the North Smithfield Town Council. Taxpayers will face no penalty for payments made by Sept. 1. Payments can be made via the lockbox at 83 Green St. or mailed to the Office of the Tax Collector at Town Hall. Payments can also be made online here or by calling (844) 593-0188.

Concert update

North Smithfield Parks & Recreation has announced updates to the summer concert series, rescheduling two events that were cancelled due to rain. Whiskey Rhode will play a free show starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 17 at the Town Hall gazebo at 83 Green St. Originally scheduled to be the final band in the series, The Live Music Band will play on Thursday, August 24.

The two rescheduled dates will include a concert with Cee Cee And the Riders on Friday, Sept. 1 and Country Wild Heart on Thursday, Sept. 7.

Other in-town entertainment

Lindy’s Tavern at 98 School St. will hold a classic car night this week, on Thursday, August 17 starting at 6 p.m., hosted by Creep C.C. and the Bombshell Betties of RI. On Friday, Northeast Groove will play in the Plastic Palace and on Saturday, Amber Rose will offer entertainment, with both starting at 8 p.m. Sunday is open mic with Don Holt starting at 3 p.m.

Weekly car shows continue at the Beef Barn on Industrial Drive on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday, the restaurant offers outdoor yoga on the back fields starting at 9 a.m. Participants are asked to bring their own mat, water and $10 for the class.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Board of Canvassers will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 15 starting at 10:30 a.m. at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 15 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Conservation Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Sewer Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, August 16 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The Halliwell Review Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, August 17 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
