Northern RI – The National Weather Service issued a tornado watch this morning for northern Rhode Island, which remains in effect through 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 16.

The watch also includes portions of Connecticut and Massachusetts and comes amid a strong thunderstorm with winds in excess of 40-miles-per-hour.

Residents are advised to be cautious of flooded roads and to get indoors if they hear thunder. A flood watch has also been issued for the region, which remains in effect through this evening. A total of two to four inches of rain is expected, but localized amounts could total four to six inches.

“Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,” notes the weather alert.
