GLOCESTER – A business that has a research campus in Glocester and is one of the town’s largest taxpayers was named among the best places to work in America this week by Newsweek magazine.

The publication reportedly identified the top 1,000 companies in the country based on a large employer survey of businesses that have at least 1,000 workers. Evaluation and scoring was based on company familiarity, target group, company valuation, which included company image, corporate culture, working environment, work-life balance, training and career progression, compensation and benefits, sustainability awareness and proactive management of the diverse workforce and media monitoring.

Six Rhode Island companies made the list, which also includes A & H Manufacturing in Johnston; Amica Mutual Insurance Co. based in Lincoln; and Citizens Financial Inc., Health Concepts and Textron Inc., all based in Providence.

Headquartered in Johnston, FM Global is an insurance services/underwriting company which employs between 5,000 and 19,999 workers and has revenue between $5 billion and $10 billion, the report notes. The business, which received five stars in the ranking system, has a research campus on Reynolds Road in Chepachet.

The campus holds laboratories where the business conducts simulations of potential property loss hazards, including fires, natural disasters and electrical ignition to help manufacture test products.
