GLOCESTER – Forty two years after starting a successful real estate business on Terry Lane, Brian Carpentier died unexpectedly in January.

It was a great and sudden loss not only to his family, but to his town, his colleagues and his clients.

Carpentier, the longtime owner of Long Realty and Insurance Company, was an active member of his church and community. He held a realtor’s license since the age of 18.

“Brian was extremely knowledgeable about the towns he served and a known expert regarding country property,” noted the obituary.

Glocester native Gregory Coupe was with the business since its inception, and began working in real estate himself some 18 years ago.

Now, he’s purchased the firm with hopes to honor the founder, continuing Long’s reputation for hard work, market expertise and reliability.

Coupe, who graduated from Ponaganset High School in 1996 and now lives in Smithfield with his wife and two daughters, holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science and an MBA in organizational leadership from Johnson and Wales. He is now serving as principal broker at the business, which employs five licensed agents.

“We are local realtors who live locally,” Coupe told NRI NOW. “Over the past several years, I have been working and building a reputation in the industry to ensure knowledge, integrity, and responsibility is provided.”

Coupe said what makes Long stand out from other firms is professionalism and accountability. Agents show properties personally seven days a week, and always deal directly with their clients. They dress professionally, and answer their phones seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

“We have built our reputation from hard work, availability and customized options to meet each of our clients’ individual needs,” said Coupe. “We have been fortunate to provide a service to Rhode Islanders, specifically country property.”

Agents are also licensed in Connecticut and most recently Massachusetts, and work with local companies when buying and selling homes, whether it pertains to a septic system, surveying work, or obtaining a loan from a bank.

“These trustworthy relationships will remain,” Coupe said, noting Carpentier’s family fully supports the change in ownership and knows Long Realty will continue successfully. “We are thankful for the continued support from our past and current clients who have ensured our success.”
