Vendor & Food Truck Fair & a chopper party: Five things to know in Glocester this week

The Glocester Historical Cemeteries Committee wished everyone a happy Memorial Day weekend, noting that the group has discovered and maintained the graves of 130 previously forgotten veterans and put in new grave markers and new flags.

Vendor Fair

Glad Tidings Community Church will host a vendor fair with food trucks on Saturday, June 3 at the church at 111 Victory Highway from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will also feature reptiles, a bouncy house and special guest appearances from the Rhode Island State Police and RIDEM Division of Forest Environment and more. Proceeds will support GT Kids summer programming.

Hiring

The town of Glocester is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of probationary police officer.

Applicants must be a U.S. citizens, at least 18 years of age, and possess a valid driver’s license and must possess a high school diploma or GED certificate. Applicants must also meet medical, physical and psychological standards and must pass an extensive background investigation.

Applications may be obtained from glocesterri.org, or in person at the Police Department.

Previous candidates must complete new applications.

Summer reading & fun

Harmony Library’s Summer Reading online registration begins Thursday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Visit our website, glocesterlibraries.org, to view our summer reading brochures for children, teens and adults, and to register.

Children programs at the library in June include an Audubon story time, Paws to Read sessions with a furry friend, LEGO Club, and more. Adult programs in June include Walking Club, Fearless Art Club, as well as craft and a special travel program on Scotland and Ireland.

Chopper party

Cady’s Tavern will host a chopper party on Saturday, June 3, featuring old, new, custom and stock bikes. The all day event begins at noon.

Town meetings

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, June 1 starting at 7:30 p.m. The agenda will be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website here.
