Free CPR class signups

The North Smithfield Emergency Management Agency under direction of Peter Branconia will be holding a Hands-Only CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed and an introductory First Aid Program for North Smithfield residents, free of charge. Branconia, along with instructors Cheryl & Richard Savaria, will be teaching Hands-Only CPR/AED, Stop the Bleed and the first five minutes of first aid skills to participants, so they can provide life-saving interventions until professional EMS arrives.

The class, limited to 50 North Smithfield residents, will take place at Scouter’s Hall on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Reservations are required by calling (401) 767-2200 ext. 301.

Upon completion of the class, participants will have the knowledge and skills in providing Hands-Only CPR, to include the safe operation of an AED for a patient in cardiac arrest. They will also learn how to control and manage life-threatening bleeding and what to do in the first five minutes for an individual who has become sick or injured. Participants will also receive a certificate acknowledging their accomplishment.

Memorial Day

The LeClair Kozlik Logan Bassett VFW Post 6342 will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 29. The parade will step off from Brigido’s Market at 10:30 a.m. and march down Main Street before conducting a Memorial ceremony in front of the old Town Hall at 11 a.m. After the ceremony, the march will continue down School Street and end at the pavillion behind Lindy’s Tavern. The Scouts, the North Smithfield High School band, police and fire departments, and veterans will participate. Everyone is invited to attend. Following the end of the parade there will be a free coalition.

Lemonade

While you’re at the parade, swing by WeeCare Daycare at 98 North Main St., where the students will have a lemonade stand to benefit the North Smithfield Animal Shelter. All proceeds will be donated as part of the WeeCare Reaching Out and Feinstein Junior scholar program.

WeeCare families and Alumni: We’d love to see you! Bring a chair or blanket, buy a glass of lemonade and watch the parade with us. The parade will kick off at 10:30 am.
