Body cams, Craft show & Garden opening: Five things to know in Glocester this week

The Glocester Land Trust shared a photo this week of a beautiful day at Steere Hill.

Body cameras

The town is notifying residents that the Glocester Police Department has enacted a body worn camera program. Several officers are currently wearing cameras with the remaining department members to begin wearing the devices by September.

The cameras, equipment and all costs of the program are being funded as part of a five year legislative grant administered by the Rhode Island Department of Public Safety.

Movie night

Glocester Manton Free Public Library will host a Movie Night on Friday, May 12 starting at 5 p.m., with a showing of Pokemon, Secrets of the Jungle.

Registration is required at www.glocesterlibraries.org.

Craft show

The Ponaganset High School Class of 2025 will host a Craft Show on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the cafeteria of the high school at 137 Anan Wade Road. Visit with more than 60 local vendors and take part in the PHS Agricultural Plant Sale.

Garden opening

Glocester Heritage Gardens will host a garden opening at the Job Armstrong’s Shopkeepers Garden at 1181 Putnam Pike on Saturday, May 13 from 10 a.m. to noon. Join URI Master Gardeners as they plant seeds and baby plants. Bring your gardening questions and get a free resource sheet full of information to help you become a better gardener.

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 9 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 10 starting at 7 p.m. in the community center of Laurel Crest apartments. The agenda is here.
