Yard waste info, Clean & Green Day: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Yard waste

The Department of Public Works has announced that yard waste pickup will begin the week of Monday, April 24 and run through June 12. Residents should place paper bags on the sidewalk with their regular trash for pickup.

RIDOT project

The Rhode Island Department of Transportation’s project to improve intersections and crosswalks in the state will target the area of Route 146A at the Route 146 southbound offramp the week of Monday, April 17. Lucina Brothers is the prime contractor for the project.

Clean & Green Day

Sign-ups are now open for North Smithfield’s annual Clean & Green Day, to be held on Saturday, April 22 from 9 a.m. to noon, with registration starting at 8 a.m. at Town HallBig Brothers & Big Sisters of Rhode Island will also be taking part this year, collecting donations of clothes, linens, books and housewares at at 83 Greene St. Those who register by Tuesday, April 4 will be guaranteed an event t-shirt. Pantry needs tuna

The North Smithfield Food Pantry has announced the pickup dates in the month of April will be Saturdays, April 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. and Tuesdays, April 18 and 25 at 5:30 p.m. The Food Pantry is open to North Smithfield residents, and you must have a photo ID and a bill that confirms your North Smithfield address. You can attend the Food Pantry all four times it is open per month.

The pantry is located at the Slatersville Congregational Church UCC on the Common.

For the month of April, the pantry is asking for donations of tuna, beans and pasta sauce.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a meeting on Monday, April 17 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Fire & Rescue Service will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. at 1470 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, April 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Town Council is also scheduled to hold a meeting on Wednesday, April 19 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. The agenda is expected to be posted 48 hours in advance on the Secretary of State’s website here.
