BURRILLVILLE – A town-based business that produces cured meats reportedly laid off 49 workers this week.

Charcuterie Artisans – formerly Daniele, Inc. – notified the impacted staff on Wednesday, March 22.

The business was family owned and operated for more than 40 years before it was sold to a Chicago-based firm in 2019, and merged with Utah-based Creminelli Fine Meats in 2020.

According to reports, CEO David Finch said demand for his company’s Italian meats increased during the pandemic, but has since leveled off.

Located off Route 102, the company also has a Pawtucket-based recruiting office, opened in 2020.

“Due to the combined effects of our industry’s current market conditions and economic uncertainty on a national level, Charcuterie Artisans has made the difficult but necessary decision to scale down its workforce at its Rhode Island facility,” Finch said in a statement.

The laid off staff is reportedly being assisted by the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training.
