BURRILLVILLE – For the second time in as many weeks, fire districts in Burrillville put out blazes that started in the chimneys of homes in Pascoag, leading local officials to remind residents to keep up with routine maintenance.

Firefighters from Pascoag, along with Oakland Mapleville, Harrisville and Wallum Lake, responded to a chimney fire at 920 Hill Road in the morning on Sunday, March 19. Responding units worked to contain and extinguish the blaze at a home belonging to Jeffrey Mendoza, according to town property records.

Crews also knocked out a chimney fire the previous weekend, putting out a blaze at another Pascoag home on Saturday, March 11. Both fires were extinguished quickly before spreading to the rest of the house.

The recent incidents led the department to warn residents to keep up with chimney maintenance.

“As winter turns to spring, please consider this a reminder to have your chimney checked and cleaned to help prevent any problems,” PFD noted on social media this week.
