Northern, RI – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for northern Rhode Island and the surrounding area with a snow warning in effect starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 27.

Heavy snow is expected in the region with accumulation of four to seven inches, and hazardous conditions are on track to impact the Tuesday morning commute.

According to NWS, snow will overspread Connecticut and western-central Massachusetts between 7 and 10 p.m. Monday night, hitting Rhode Island from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Tuesday morning. The heaviest snow and lowest visibility is expected to occur from late Monday evening into the overnight, when travel will be very difficult. Those who must travel are advised to keep and extra flashlight, food and water in their vehicle in case of an emergency.

Accumulation will continue into Tuesday, but at a lower intensity, and rising temperatures will result in road conditions slowly improving.
