This week’s Newshound, 14-year-old Sammi, had a little influence in her final home of choice.

Sammi first came to New England in 2010 as a one and a half-year-old, after being rescued from a shelter in Georgia by a friend of Jon Gregory’s son and daughter-in-law in New Hampshire.

At the time, she was known as Almond.

“I think it may be because of her big brown eyes,” Gregory said.

In 2011, the friend needed to find another home for Sammi and asked the New Hampshire Gregorys if they would be interested in Sammi.

“We met Sammi on an overnight stay,” said Gregory. “In the morning she climbed into our bed and had her face up against mine.”

In 2013, the Gregorys dog sat for Sammi while the son’s family was on vacation.

“We got an email from my son and his family asking if we were interested in keeping Sammi, as they felt she was a little too active for a family with four young children”, said Gregory. “We said ‘yes,’ and Sammi has been with me ever since.”

Now living in Florida. The ‘part lab, part pit and part mutt” has adapted to the climate quite nicely, according to her owner.
