Feel the Warmth

Dino’s Park & Shop has launched its annual Feel the Warmth Book Drive and is now collecting gently used books. Books are also on sale for a cost of $2 each with all proceeds to go toward the purchase of heating oil for town residents in need. Dino’s will match the first $1,000 raised through the drive. To donate or purchase a book, visit the store at 1020 Putnam Pike.

Taxes

The Glocester Town Clerk’s office is reminding residents that second quarter tax payments from 2022 tax bills were due on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Taxes unpaid after Wednesday, Feb. 1 are subject to an 8 percent penalty per year retroactive to November 1. Failure to receive a tax bill will not excuse non payment or any related interest/penalty.

Taxes can be paid at Town Hall during regular business hours Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.; online with a Visa/Mastercard at www.RIeGovernment.com or via the drop box with a check.

Movie night

Glocester Manton Library at 1137 Putnam Pike will host a movie night on Friday, Jan. 20 showing Secret Headquarters from 5 to 7 p.m. The library will have pizza popcorn and snacks, and guests are instructed to bring something comfortable to sit on. Attendees are asked to register here.

Meat raffle

The Glocester Lions Club will host a meat raffle on Sunday, Jan. 22 at Pinewood Pizza & Pub at 16 Cherry Lane. Doors will open at noon with the raffle to start at 1 p.m. Tickets will be $30 for 26 chances or $60 for three sheets, and there will also be a 50/50 raffle for $5 per chance. Visitors will get a free buffet with the purchase of meat raffle tickets.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 17 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Budget Board will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 18 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is expected to be posted on the Secretary of State’s website at least 48 hours in advance here.
