Northern, RI – It’s the last full weekend for Christmas shopping and some northern Rhode Island businesses are raising the bar, offering fun holiday events and activities as you purchase your presents.

Welcome to The Weekend, northern Rhode Island, your weekly guide to everything happening in our tri-town coverage area. As usual, there’s plenty to do and see, with holiday happenings, shoppertunities and special events all weekend long.

Tonight, celebrate the Burrillville High School girls hockey team at the unveiling of their championship banner at Levy Rink and stick around for the girls’ game, followed by Bronco boys game.

Saturday’s highlights include a Kids Holiday Craft Fair at Art Box Studio, and on Sunday, it’s a Christmas Fair at Bronco Crossing.

Mapleville Farm has extended its Cookie Spectacular, offering variety packs with a choice of 20 different cookies this weekend, and Wright’s Farm gift shop is donating five percent of their net sales to the Rhode Island Food Bank.

However you spend your time, make it jolly, and we hope you find time to check out these great events and venues.

Backstage will play at Uncle Ronnie’s Tavern Friday night.

Friday, Dec. 16   

Walmart, Dowling Village Way, North Smithfield, North Smithfield Police Department Christmas Toy Drive, 3-7 p.m. Collecting new, unwrapped toys for local children in need.

The Taco Shop, 459 Chapel St., Harrisville, Burrillville High School Boys Hockey Team fundraiser 3-8 p.m. Ten percent of sales will be donated to the team.

Big Bear Hunting & Fishing, 401 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, visit with Santa, 5-6:30 p.m. Guests are invited to visit for photos with Santa and the bear.

Johnny’s Victory Diner at 2731 Victory Highway, Burrillville, Polar Express special, 5-8 p.m. Children will receive a Golden Ticket upon entry good for a free meal of a pancake or grilled cheese – with a purchase of a parent meal. A Polar Express ticket/sticker and bell will also be given to each child.

Harmony Products, 474 Putnam Pike, Chepachet, Holiday Lights train rides, 5-7 p.m. $7 per person, free for kids under 3.

Nicole’s Before & After Clubhouse, Hopkins Road, Chepachet, Parents Night Out, 5-9 p.m. Drop off kids age 4 and up to enjoy dinner, games, crafts and more. The cost is $50 per kid.

Levy Rink, 425 East Ave., Burrillville, Unveiling of Burrillville High School Girls Hockey team championship banner followed by game, followed by boys team game, 7 p.m.

Mapleville Farm, 544 Victory Highway, Mapleville, Cookie Spectacular, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Selling 20 kinds of holiday cookies in mix-and-match boxes so you can try an assortment. Visit in your ugliest sweater for a free cookie.

Art Box Studio, 180 Tinkham Lane, Harrisville, Kids Holiday Craft Fair, 11 a.m – 3 p.m. Support young artists and crafters with the purchase of jewelry, paintings and more. Miniature food, face painting, decorative pens & slime.

Stillwater Mill pavilion, 100 Tinkham Lane, Harrisville, (I)mpact Youth with Glad Tidings Church Winter Coat Giveaway, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The group will have prayer and give away free winter gear, food and hot drinks while supplies last. Pound Hill Creamery at Beef Barn Restaurant, 200 Industrial Drive, North Smithfield, noon- 4 p.m. Visit with Santa, enjoy hot chocolate and locally made cookies.

Sundance Stables, 164 Old Snake Hill Road, Chepachet, Country Christmas Celebration, 3 p.m. Take photos in a handmade sleigh and make icicle ornaments. Family of four costs $25 with reservation required by calling (401) 641-5788

Liberty Farm, 90 Ironmine Road, Harrisville, Open Farm Event, 3 – 5 p.m. Meet friendly rescues, purchase fresh farm meats, and have a horse-drawn wagon ride. Treats & refreshments available and gift certificates for purchase. Little B’s BBQ on site until 5:30 p.m.

Slatersville Congregational Church, 25 Green St., Slatersville, Family Christmas Pageant with interim pastor Rev. Linda Hartley, 10 a.m. Families with children are invited to the pageant to be held during the service, featuring children, the adult choir, and the hand bell choir. All children who attend will be invited to participate, and then celebrate with special treats during coffee hour after the service.

Bronco Crossing Plaza, 1452 Broncos Highway, Burrillville, Christmas Fair, noon – 5 p.m. Snacks, vendors, gift wrapping, specials and sales. Take a picture with Santa and decorate an ornament with New Rhode Nutrition
