New officer, letters to Santa: Five things to know in Glocester this week

New officer

The Glocester Police Department welcomed the newest member of the force this week with a swearing in ceremony on Monday, Dec. 12. Officer Mark Haddigan, a lateral hire, brings 13 years of law enforcement experience to the Glocester, according to the police department. Haddigan graduated from Roger Williams University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, and has previously served in Barrington. He is a certified FBI Firearms Instructor and a Field Training Officer, as well as a Glocester resident.

“We are excited to welcome Officer Haddigan to the GPD family, and we wish him the best during his career here in Glocester,” noted the department.

Library fundraisers

Two fundraisers taking place now will support ongoing operations at the town’s libraries.

Harmony Library is now holding a holiday raffle for a chance to win a Solo Stove 2.0. Raffle tickets are available for purchase at the library during business hours, with a drawing scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 21 at noon.

Glocester Manton Library is now holding its annual holiday wreath fundraiser. Purchase a wreath anytime during business hours now through Wednesday, Dec. 14 for a suggested donation of $25. All proceeds will benefit the library.

Letters to Santa

Brown & Hopkins Country Store at 1179 Putnam Pike is currently offering visitors free letters to Santa while supplies last, with no purchase necessary.

Once complete, letters to Santa can be dropped off at the post office at 1151 Putnam Pike in Chepachet, where officials will make sure they get into Santa’s mailbox.

Photos with Santa

Guests are invited to Big Bear Hunting & Fishing at 401 Putnam Pike on Friday, Dec. 16 from 5-6:30 p.m. to visit for photos with Santa and the bear. The event is free to attend.

Town meetings

The Glocester Housing Authority will hold a monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13 starting at 7 p.m. in the community room at Laurel Crest at 64 Chestnut Hill Road. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 13 starting at 7 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Zoning Board meeting originally scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 14 has been cancelled.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, Dec. 15 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is expected to be posted on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance.
