Adult sports & Everything Christmas: Five things to know in Glocester this week

The Glocester Police Department held their Fill-a-Cruiser event on Sunday, filling more than five cruisers with food for delivery to the food pantry.

Adult volleyball & basketball

Glocester Recreation has announced the start of two winter adult programs. A co-ed, 15-week pickup basketball league, open to Glocester residents who are post high school age, will play Monday nights from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Ponaganset High School field house.

On Tuesday nights, a co-ed, 15-week pickup volleyball league will take place at the field house from 7 to 9 p.m., also open to anyone in town past high school age.

Still strolling

The town’s Candlelight Shopping events continue this week, with nearly 20 businesses and organizations signed on to take part in seasonal fun through the historic Chepachet. Shops throughout the village are decorated for the season, and streets are lit with antique street lights, while the sounds of holiday music add to the old-fashioned ambiance.

The shopping events will continue on Thursdays through December from 5 to 9 p.m. Locals and visitors are invited to the village to enjoy a unique holiday shopping, dining, and entertainment excursion. To learn more visit candlelightshopping.com. 

Drop off the kids & shop

The Creative Room at 6 Money Hill Road in Chepachet will hold Santa’s Workshop for kids every Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. through December, a drop off event for the littlest elves in the family. Participants will create and wrap gifts for loved ones. The two hour workshop costs $30 and reservations can be made here.

Nicole’s Before & After Clubhouse on Hopkins Road in Chepachet will offer two parents nights out in December, a drop off program for kids age 4 and up. On Fridays, Dec. 9 and Dec. 16, parents are invited to drop off kids between 5 and 6 p.m. to enjoy dinner, games, crafts and more, pick up between 8 and 9 p.m. The cost is $50 per kid.

Everything Christmas

Cady’s Tavern at 2168 Putnam Pike`will host Everything Christmas on Saturday, Dec. 10, starting at 9 a.m. The event will include breakfast with Santa from 9 a.m. to noon, with pictures and presents for the kids, and a calendar release/Christmas party starting at 2 p.m., including a Toys for Tots collection.

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 6 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
