BURRILLVILLE – A collision Thursday morning between a bus carrying elementary school students and a minivan left four at the scene with minor injuries, according to Burrillville Police Chief Stephen Lynch, who said another child was also later transported for evaluation.

Lynch said officers were dispatched to the two-vehicle accident on Camp Dixie Road at around 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10. The vehicles had collided in the middle of the roadway in a crash that may have been caused by sun glare, according to Lynch.

Four individuals were reportedly transported from the scene, including the operator of the minivan, the school bus driver, and two of the school children.

“All were able to walk from the vehicles to the awaiting rescues and were transported to area hospitals to be evaluated for what appeared to be minor injuries,” noted a release from the department.

The remaining children were transferred onto another school bus and taken to school, where they were greeted by parents and school administrative personnel, according to Lynch.

One additional child was then transported by rescue to the hospital for evaluation.

Lynch said the cause of the accident is still under investigation.
