Northern, RI – The votes have been tallied and we feel there’s no day more appropriate to announce our winners.

Happy Halloween, northern Rhode Island! In honor of this, most ghoulish of days, we hope you’re ready for a glimpse at some of the most spirited animals around: the winners of our Howl-O-Ween, Meowl-O-Ween & Every Pet In-Bat-Ween Pet Costume Contest, as determined by our readers.

We received 15 entries in the contest, with submissions ranging from a pair of steers, to one bearded dragon that really impressed the voters. And while they’re all winners in our book, some pets must be named best dress this All Hallow’s Eve, with the owners to receive our prizes.

Winner of our third place prize, a $25 gift certificate to Gator’s Pub in North Smithfield, was Cali “the hot dog” of Glendale with 24 votes, submitted by Lauren Cleary.

Our second place winner is Birdie the bearded dragon/wizard, submitted by Faith DiMuccio North Smithfield, with 32 votes. DiMuccio wins a $50 gift card to New Rhodes Nutrition at Broncos Crossing Plaza.

But the pet named “top dog” was submitted by Kristen Carter of Burrillville. Yogi and his proud owner have won the contest with 40 votes, and will receive our grand prize, a basket of goodies from Dragonfly Apothecary in Chepachet in keeping with the season, including Tarot cards, Go Away Evil herbal oil, Fairy Dust, sage sticks and more, – plus a $25 gift certificate to Fairy Tails Dog Grooming at Slatersville Plaza.

The contest was also a fundraiser, with the area shelter most named by contestants to receive the total from our $3 entry fees. And since we’re feeling “in the spirit” ourselves today, we’ve decided to sweeten the deal.

NRI NOW will match the $45 total and deliver $90 to Burrillville Animal Control. It may not support all the animals in their care, but we hope the donation will help with supplies for some furry friendsin need.

Thanks once again to all of our contest sponsors – and to all of the northern Rhode Island pets and owners who helped to make it a success. View all the entries in Volume I here, Volume II here and Volume III here.
