Scarecrow winners

The Glocester Scarecrow Festival has announced the winners in the annual competition, recognizing the scariest, funniest and most creative entries put together for the festival held on Saturday, Oct. (15)

Family Creative Category: 1st Place: Amber Pond; 2nd Place: Amy Ferreira/Mallet Family; 3rd Place: Lauren Niedel-Gresh; 4th Place: Rotatori Family/Ashley Almedia

49 businesses to take part in Trick or Treat Main Street

The Glocester Business Association announced this week that 49 businesses have registered to pass out candy at the town’s annual Trick or Treat Main Street event, to be held Saturday, Oct. 29 from noon to 3 p.m. The family-friendly event will benefit the Foster and Glocester food pantries and attendees are asked to donate unexpired canned goods or other non-perishable items for each child participating. Monetary donations will also be accepted. In 2021, the event resulted in two truckloads of food donated to the Glocester and Foster food pantries, along with monetary donations.

This year’s event will have two starting locations for participants to drop off donations and pick up Trick or Treat maps and goodies: the parking lot at Century 21 Limitless Real Estate at 1160 Putnam Pike and the entrance to the Pavilion at Kent Field at 1111 Putnam Pike. Kids and parents will follow the treasure map to visit the many participating businesses.

Dinner with Chicks

The Hen House at 1189 Putnam Pike will host Dinner with Chicks on Friday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a menu of special grilled cheese sandwiches, rosemary potato chips and bread pudding. The public is invited to the event and no registration is required, with tickets available at the door.

Meat raffle

The Glocester Lions Club will host a meat raffle on Sunday, Oct. 23 at Pinewood Pizza & Pub at 13 Terry Lane in Chepachet with doors to open at noon. The event will feature a free buffet with the purchase of meat raffle tickets at a cost of 26 chances for $30 or three sheets for $60. Football will also be playing on the big screen TV.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda can be found here.

The Glocester Town Council will hold a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is expected to be published on the Secretary of State’s website 48 hours in advance here.
