Witches, water flushing & early voting: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Water flushing

The North Smithfield Water Department will conduct hydrant flushing in the Slatersville, Forestdale, Great Road, Mendon Road and Industrial Park areas during the week of Monday, Oct. 17 through Friday, Oct. 21 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The routine maintenance enhances water quality but may cause temporary reduction in water pressure.

Water officials recommend limiting water usage during flushing operations. Some discoloration may occur and users are advised to run the cold water until it clears.

Witches of New England

North Smithfield Public Library will host Witches of New England with Tom D’Agostino on Monday, Oct. 17 starting at 6 p.m.

“Travel back in time for a fun spooky ride when witches ruled, and the people feared their evil eye,” the events notes.

Yard waste

The town of North Smithfield has announced that pickup of yard waste will begin the week of Monday, Oct. 17 and continue through the week of December 9. Residents are asked to put out a reasonable number of bags on their regular trash day.

Early voting

Early voting will begin on Wednesday, Oct. 19 and continue through Monday, Nov. 7 at Town Hall at 83 Greene St. for the General Election, which is on Tuesday, Nov. 8.

The mandatory hours set by the Board of Elections are regular business hours, Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Friday from 8 a.m. to noon. Votes will be cast in the new town council chambers. Voters must bring a valid photo ID.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Monday, Oct. 17 starting at 6:45 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 18 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria at North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield Sewer Commission will hold a meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 19 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Budget Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, Oct. 20 starting at 6 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
