BURRILLVILLE/NORTH SMITHFIELD – The Fearless Dino Protector Squad firefighting dinosaurs remind kids and families about home fire safety and burn prevention year round as part of the very popular, “Seasons Of Safety,” Coloring Campaign created specifically for children.

National Fire Prevention Week begins Sunday, Oct. 9, and runs through Saturday, Oct. 15. Fire departments nationwide are participating during this recognized focus week helping families stay fire safe.

A series of FDPS “Home Safe Home” coloring cartoons are now featured and available on the official website of the Providence Fire Department, with a variety of fire safety and burn prevention cartoons kids can color in, and display on family refrigerators or bedroom walls. Many classroom teachers and librarians across America are downloading these cartoons and passing them out to grade school students and library visitors in kids areas, hoping to keep them safer in their homes. Firefighters are doing the same thing in their cities, towns and communities all week long.

There are many fire safety and burn prevention tips that can be conveyed to children with words. One popular educational vehicle encouraging kids to be safer are creative coloring cartoons, featuring those same safety tips along with artwork and cartoon characters, passed out directly to children everywhere.

This week’s Sunday feature includes an FDPS coloring poster telling kids not to hide when there is a firefighter inside.

North Smithfield firefighters and first responders passed out FDPS home fire safety and burn prevention coloring posters to little kids at a safety day event hosted in their community at an automobile dealership. They brought and displayed North Smithfield Fire Department fire trucks and rescue vehicles, allowing kids to sit on the driver seat and explore inside and outside of their vehicles. The kids watched as firefighters turned on the flashing lights and did quick siren blasts. Firefighters passed out Fearless Dino Protector Squad home fire safety and burn prevention coloring posters and discussed those topics with kids and adults attending the three-hour safety event.

With winter weather right around the corner and holidays approaching soon, you should check back often if you’d like to utilize upcoming FDPS home fire safety and burn prevention coloring cartoons during those months as handouts to grade school students, daycare students and library visitors in your kids areas. There will also be a new series of child safety activities pages that kids can complete, by coloring in, drawing, connecting dots, doing crosswords and word searches, matching images with words and names, finishing mazes and so on, all related to their safety in the home this winter and holiday season.

The National Fire Protection Association slogan for this fire prevention focus week is; “Fire Won’t Wait. Plan Your Escape!”

Stay fire safe everyone!
