A parade, Spooktacular & 25th anniversary: Five things to know in Burrillville this week

Light the Night

The Pascoag and Oakland Mapleville Fire Departments have joined the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation’s annual Light the Night program this year in honor of the late Lt. Richard Jenks, who died in the line of service in 2018.

Fire stations for both departments will be lit in red through next Sunday, Oct. 9 – the day that the names of 148 firefighters will be added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg, Md. The Burrillville Redevelopment Agency has also turned the lights over Main Street in downtown Pascoag red in acknowledgement of the loss to the town.

Fire officials asked residents to take a moment to remember Jenks, and all of the fallen when they see the silent tribute.

The Salem Sisters

The Assembly Theatre will host the Salem Sisters Spooktacular on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Halloween performance features live singing, lavish scenery, costumes, and, “show stopping production numbers,’ according to theater officials.

Tickets cost $20 or $16 for children under 13 and are available online here, or at the door one hour prior to show time.

It’s spirit week for the Burrillville High School Broncos and the community is invited to celebrate at the homecoming parade and game on Saturday, Oct. 8. The parade kicks off at 11 a.m. at Callahan Elementary School – with floats lining up at 10 a.m. – and the homecoming game versus East Greenwich begins at Alumni Field at noon.
