Emergency drill, Jay Forgue Classic & a cornhole fundraiser: Five things to know in Glocester this week

The Twice Blessed Thrift Shop at 1138 Putnam Pike has had a facelift and is inviting residents to visit and check it out. The store now has ladies, mens, children and infant fall/winter clothing and coats available, with hours Thursday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Road work

Glocester police are warning drivers that starting this morning on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at around 7 a.m. throughout the rest of the week, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation will be applying the final coat of asphalt to the newly paved section of the roadway on Route 94/Reynolds Road.

Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes if possible, as long delays are expected.

Cornhole fundraiser

Oakleaf Family Campground at 43 Oak Leaf Way will hold a cornhole tournament on Saturday, Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The event will also include a silent auction, and will  raise money for the Peggy McKeever Scholarship Fund at Tolgate High School. You do not need to be present to bid on auction items, which can be found here. Bidding will be conducted via Facebook live starting at 4:30 p.m.

Emergency response exercise

Glocester Emergency Management has announced that the town will be conducting a multi-community emergency response exercise on Saturday, Oct. 1. Emergency vehicles from multiple towns will be traveling within Glocester. Emergency Management noted that during the exercise parts of Anan Wade Road between Snake Hill Road to Route 101 will be restricted to local traffic between 8:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. and drivers should seek alternate routes.

“Thank you for your cooperation during this time as we train to keep our residents safe,” the notice said.

Jay Forgue Classic

The Glocester Republican Town Committee will host the “Jay Forgue Classic” Golf Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 2, a fundraiser in honor of the late councilman. The event, at the Foster Country Club, will include 18 holes of golf with a cart and dinner. Tickets cost $130 per golfer or $50 for dinner only and can be purchased by contacting William Worthy at (401) 623-0605.

Town meetings

The West Glocester Fire District will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27 starting at 5:30 p.m. at 2410 Putnam Pike. The agenda can be found here.

The Glocester Land Trust will not be holding their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27.

The Glocester Recreation Commission will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.
