Honoring athletes

Town Council President John Beauregard has announced that the North Smithfield Town Council will be honoring the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games Silver Medalist Team Rhode Island at their meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 6 at Town Hall, which starts at 6:45 p.m.

Beauregard invites the public to attend the event and support the winning athletes.

Save the date

The North Smithfield Parks & Recreation Department has announced the date for the Dinner Under the Stars, an annual event held in conjunction with N.S. Days. This year’s dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1.

Heritage walk

The North Smithfield Heritage Association will host a Heritage Walk on Saturday, Sept. 10 starting at 9:30 a.m. Walk woodland trails, visit site NS38 including the Oliver Smith Cemetery, Amasa Sweet Granite Quarry, the ruins of the Obed Paine Homestead, the Great Wall, the ruins of a gristmill, and the ruins of the William Mowry Homestead.

Participants will meet at the North Smithfield High School tennis courts on Grange Road.

Church to distribute ‘blessings bags’

Slatersville Congregational Church has planned a special project to be held in conjunction with 9/11 National Day of Service, with distribution of “blessing bags,” to the homeless. One gallon bags will be filled with individually-wrapped food items and travel-sized toiletries.
