Endorsements

The North Smithfield Democratic Town Committee has announced the endorsements for the 2022 primary election season, selecting candidates for several statewide and General Assembly races following a forum held this week.

The committee has endorsed the following candidates: Governor, Nellie Gorbea; Lieutenant Governor, Deb Ruggiero; Treasurer, Stefan Pryor; Secretary of State, Gregg Amore; Attorney General, Peter Neronha; Representative in Congress, David Cicilline; State Representative District 48, Paul Jones; State Representative District 49, Glenn Dusablon; State Senator District 17, Cameron Deutsch; State Senator District 24, Melissa Murray

Fifteen Week Club

The Meadows Senior Residence Association is selling tickets to its Fifteen Week Club.

Starting in September, a ticket will be pulled every week for $25. At the Christmas party on Dec. 15, grand prizes will be pulled. First prize is $250, second is $175, and third is $100.

NS Police & Fire Departments honor Bradford family

The North Smithfield Police Department and North Smithfield Fire & Rescue honored Kavan and Kailyn Bradford on Tuesday, August 23, in recognition of an incident in May.

Emergency personnel visited the siblings’ home after Kailyn found brother Kavan unresponsive and immediately called 9-1-1. Kavan underwent emergency, life-saving surgery for a rare brain aneurysm. It was his second victory over major health issues as he was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma at 18 months old.

Both sibling were given certificates of heroism.

The North Smithfield Public Library is reminding people that E-books – those digitized books you can read on your phone, tablet, or laptop – can be borrowed for free with your Ocean State Library card. Go to https://catalog.oslri.net and click on eZone Digital Downloads. There you will see a banner for Libby and links for the app for your Android or Apple device. Once downloaded, you can access Rhode Island’s eZone digitized books as well as audiobooks and movies by entering your library card number and the associated pin. Titles are available in Spanish with some bi-lingual titles for children written in both English and standard Latin-American Spanish. If you have a Kindle and are only interested in E-books, you won’t need the app.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a special joint meeting with the North Smithfield Town Council on Monday, August 29 in the North Smithfield Middle School cafeteria starting at 6 p.m. for an agenda that will include a presentation by Greene Development, LLC for a solar carport and expansion of parking lot. The North Smithfield Buildings Review Task Force will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 30 starting at 5:30 p.m. at the North Smithfield police station at 575 Smithfield Road. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield Zoning Board will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 30 starting at 7 p.m. at Town Hall at 83 Green St. The agenda is here.
