Voting day

The town of Glocester’s financial referendum will be held on Tuesday, August 16 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with voting at the Glocester Senior Center at 1210 Putnam Pike. You must be a Glocester registered voter to cast a vote. The town budget can be found here.

Road closure

The town has announced that Cranberry Ridge Road at Pole #19 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Tuesday, August 16 through Friday, August 19 for drainage work.

“Sorry for any inconvenience and please plan accordingly,” officials noted in a Code Red notification.

Yoga crash

Soulshine Yoga at 1020 Putnam Pike has announced that some classes may be cancelled and others moved outdoors this week after a car backed through a wall of the building on Monday, August 15. No one was hurt but the car damaged the front of the studio during a class. The building inspector has reportedly said it is safe to hold classes utilizing half of the room. The owners said the business will keep students updated on any class changes via Facebook, email and text.

“As always, the safety and comfort of our community is of utmost importance,” the business noted. “Thank you for your flexibility and understanding at this time as we navigate this bump in the road.”

Summer Twilight Woods Walk

The Rhode Island Forest Conservators Organization’s annual Summer Twilight Woods Walk will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the George Washington Management Area.

The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management Division of Forest Environment will review recent improvement projects during the evening hike, hosted by DEM Stewardship Forester Fern Graves.

Graves’ program at the Division of Forest Environment provided the funding for establishment of a slash wall surrounding a roughly 5-acre oak regeneration/habitat clearing. The walls are less expensive to build and maintain than a deer fence, according to a release on the event.

The site can be accessed from the entrance to Pulaski Park, and signs will be posted at the entrance, with parking available for smaller vehicles. Car-pooling in larger vehicles will be coordinated by RIFCO volunteers for the drive down Center Trail to the beginning of the walk location.

No registration is needed for the free walk.

For directions to the site, or for questions, contact RIFCO at info@rifco.org, or by calling (401) 568-3410. For more information about the Stewardship Program, including the actions taken on this recent project, contact Graves at (401) 539-2356.

Town meetings

The Glocester School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda can be found here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, August 18 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda is set to be posted 48 hours in advance on the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s website here.
