Games in the Park, trailer premiere: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Victory Day

North Smithfield Town Hall will be closed on Monday, August 8 in observance of Victory Day. There will be no trash or recycling pickup on Monday, and collection will be postponed by one day for the remainder of the week.

Trailer premiere

The world premiere of a three-minute trailer for Slatersville, America’s First Mill Village, will take place at a free event at Old Slater Mill at 67 Roosevelt Ave. in Pawtucket on Thursday, August 11. The event will include a 6:30 p.m. guided tour of the national historic landmark, followed by several short film screenings, including the Slatersville trailer, and live performances by High Planes and Lauren King.

The limited series by town-based director Christian de Rezendes is set to run on Rhode Island PBS starting on Friday, Sept. 16.

Free concert, Games in the Park

The latest band in the town’s free summer concert series, Fixed Income, will perform at the Town Hall Gazebo by 83 Greene St. from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 11. A food truck is also expected to be on site.

Also on Thursday, Pack 7 Slatersville Cub Scouts will host Games in the Park, one of several events this summer the troop opened to all children entering grades K-5 and their families. The event will be held at Pacheco Park starting at 6:30 p.m., with popsicles to follow at Scouter’s Hall.

Voter deadline

The deadline to register to vote in the upcoming primary election is Sunday, August, 14, and the Town Clerk’s office invites residents to visit during regular business hours to submit new voter registrations, or correct names and addresses on voter rolls.

Those who would like a mail ballot have until Tuesday, August 23 to submit an application.

The town is still in need of poll workers for the primary, set to take place on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Town meetings

North Smithfield Fire & Rescue will hold a meeting on Tuesday, August 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. at 1470 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

There will be no other meetings of municipal boards are scheduled this week.
