GLOCESTER – After being reopened for just a week, Camp Ruggles Beach was again closed this week following testing from the Rhode Island Department of Health that showed high bacteria levels.

The beach was previously closed for six days, reopening on Tuesday, July 19. On Tuesday, July 26, RIDOH issued a second notice after another round of testing.

The camp offers a day program for children diagnosed with emotional and behavioral disabilities.

It is the third beach in town to see closure during 2022’s short summer swim season. Holiday Acres Campground beach was closed from June 13 to June 22, and Marion Irons, from July 12 to July 19.

RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day. The status of a beach may change as new data become available. The most up-to-date beach information is available through a recorded message on RIDOH’s beaches telephone line at 401-222-2751.
