Tax delay, Fairies & Fireflies: Five things to know in Glocester this week


Youth track night

Glocester Recreation will hold the town’s annual Youth Track Night on Tuesday, July 12 at the Ponaganset High School track. Day-of-registration and field events will start at 5:30 p.m., with running events beginning at 6 p.m.. Hawaiian Jims will be selling shaved iced at the event, open to kids ages 2-12. The cost to participate is $1 per event, with a $10 cap for families.

On Wednesday, July 13, the Recreation Department will put on a summer concert, with The Don Holt Band performing at Chepachet Union Church starting at 6:30 p.m.

On Sunday, July 17, CarTune Heroes Lite will play Sunday in the Village at the Kent Field Pavilion. That event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with live music starting at noon.

Tax delay

The town of Glocester is notifying residents that due to the delay of the Financial Town Referendum for the fiscal 2023 budget, 2022 tax bills will not be mailed in July. The referendum is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 16, and tax bills will reportedly be mailed within a couple weeks following the vote.

The first quarter on the 2022 tax bill will be due in September, according to a notice published last week.

Help, therapy dogs available

Help is available for those in need of counseling following the death last week of two students from Ponaganset High School. Two teenagers were reportedly killed in a crash on Salisbury Road in Foster on Thursday, July 7.

Supt. Renee Palazzo said in a statement that grief counselors are available at the school for any students who might need them.

The owners of North Scituate-based business Dog On It said they’d also be glad to provide support to anyone in the community who could benefit from the unconditional love and comfort of a compassion and therapy dog.

Fairies and fireflies

The Dragonfly Apothecary will present Fairies and Fireflies on Saturday, July 16 from noon to 8 p.m. at
15 Money Hill Road in Chepachet. The event will feature Tarot card readers, local vendors and artisans including ABC Co.; A Moment In Time Massage & Treasures; Branchish Jerky; Jason LeClair: Cartoons and Creatures; Rock & Pearl Holistic Health; and Rezinates by Kim. Ra-Ra’s Surf Shack food truck will also be on site.

Town meetings

The Glocester Land Trust will hold a meeting on Tuesday, July 12 starting at 7 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Conservation Commission is expected to hold a meeting on Thursday, July 14 starting at 7 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall. The agenda will be published on the Secretary of State’s website here.
