Movie night, pizza oven raffle: Five things to know in Glocester this week

Members of the Glocester Police Department, along with family and friends, participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olypics RI on June 3, with two participants, Sgt. Don Sousa and dispatcher Tiffany Leonard going the entire 16.5 miles from Glocester to the Rhode Island State House.

Movie night

The Ponaganset Class of 2023 will be hosting a family movie night on Friday, June 17 at Ponagansett High School starting at 8 p.m. All are welcome, with a $5 admission. Concessions will be available for purchase. The class will be showing Toy Story 1 in the front circle of the high school and guests are invited to bring blankets and chairs.

Garden stories

Chepachet Union Church has announced that Garden Story Time will begin this month, to take place Tuesdays, June 28 through August 2. The free events are design for kids age 2-6-years-old. Families are asked to register here.

Pizza oven raffle, hiking highlights

Harmony Library will host a three-part hiking series this summer featuring outdoor expert Jim Robinson starting today, Tuesday, June 14, at 6 p.m. In part one, Robinson will focus on some of his favorite trails in northern and central Rhode Island, as well as boundary areas of Connecticut and Massachusetts, including Buck Hill, the North-South Trail and the Tri-State Trail, as well as some parts of Arcadia, sharing photos, hiking tips, and anecdotes. Registration is required by calling the library at (401) 949-2850.

While you’re at the library, register for a chance to win a 12″ gas-fueled Ooni pizza oven, a pizza peel and a copy of “The Pizza Bible,” in a raffle. Tickets cost for $5, 3 for $10, or 7 for $20. The drawing will take place Thursday, June 30 at 7 p.m.

Summer concerts

The Glocester Recreation Department has announced the Glocester Summer Concert Series, to take place at the Kent Field Pavilion or Chepachet Union Church at 1138 Putnam Pike on Wednesdays from June 29 through August 3, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The series kicks off with The DMB Project at the pavilion on Wednesday, June 29, with bands to follow including Atwater Donnelly on July 6; The Don Colt Band on July 13; Jesse Liam Band on July 20; The Driftwoods on July 27; and All About Amy August 3.

The Glocester Ancients & Horribles Parade Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 14 starting at 4:30 p.m. in room 9 at Town Hall at 1145 Putnam Pike. The agenda is here.

The Glocester Town Council is scheduled to hold a meeting on Thursday, June 16 starting at 7:30 p.m. at Glocester Town Hall. An agenda will be posted on the Secretary of State’s website.
