Library closure, Pancake Breakfast: Five things to know in North Smithfield this week

Library closed

The North Smithfield Public Library will be closed starting Monday, May 16 and will remain closed through Saturday, May 21 at 9 a.m. for repaving of the building’s parking lot. The book drop will remain open during the closure.

Spring concert

The North Smithfield High School Spring Concert will be held next week with ticket sells to begin on Wednesday, May 18. The theme of the performance is ‘music from film’ and the concert will include a cabaret-style chorus performance involving 189 students, and the symphonic band.

Concerts will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, May 25 and 26 at 7 p.m.

Advanced ticket sales for students’ family will begin this Wednesday and run through Friday, May 20, with a five ticket limit per family.

The Frehill Council 5702 from St. John The Evangelist Parish is thanking donors from a successful fundraising drive over the weekend. After a two year absence, the group held their annual Knights of Columbus Tootsie Roll Drive at Brigido’s Market in Slatersville on Saturday, May 14.  Donations from the Tootsie Roll Drive are directed to helping differently abled persons of all ages. 

Pictured above helping out are  Bill Connell, Nicole Connell, Tom Carnevale, Robert Marcotte, and Olivia Lee. Also helping were Bob Gallant and Jeff Butler. 

The Knights thanked everyone who came by to help or donate, and also thanked Brigido’s Market for hosting. 

Pancake Breakfast

Boy Scout Troop 1139 Slatersville will host a pancake breakfast on Sunday, May 22 at St. John’s Church Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The cost is $10 or $5 for kids age 5-12 and fund raised will help to provide supplies and camping equipment for the troop.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council will hold a regular meeting on Monday, May 16 starting at 6:45 p.m. at 83 Greene St. The agenda can be found here.

The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a regular meeting on Tuesday, May 17 starting at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria of North Smithfield Middle School at 1850 Providence Pike. The agenda is here.

The North Smithfield Sewer Commission will hold a virtual meeting on Wednesday, May 18 starting at 7 p.m. The agenda and link to attend at here.

The Halliwell Review Committee will hold a meeting on Thursday, May 19 starting at 7 p.m. at 83 Greene St. The agenda is here.
