WARWICK – A 58-year-old man wanted by North Smithfield police for failure to register as a sex offender was arrested last week by the Rhode Island State Police Detective Division’s Violent Fugitive Task Force.

John W. St. Germain was arrested on Tuesday, Feb. 1 on an arrest warrant issued by the North Smithfield Police Department, along with a Superior Court Bench Warrant for also failing to register an address in Cranston.

St. Germain, a Level 2 sex offender whose last known address was at 1210 Eddie Dowling Highway in North Smithfield, known as the Travelers Motor Lodge, was found guilty of two counts of second degree child molestation in 1998. He has since failed to register his address eight times according to the Rhode Island Sex Offender Registry, including last April when the warrant was issued by NSPD.

St Germain was taken into custody and turned over to the North Smithfield Police Department, according to a release from the state police detective bureau. His bond was set at $1,000 surety and he has a pre-arraignment conference scheduled for Wednesday, April 27.
