Surplus sale

The town of North Smithfield is seeking individual sealed bids on surplus items. All vehicles are being sold as is and may be viewed at the Public Works Facility at 281 Quaker Highway, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. Bid packets are available at the office of the North Smithfield Finance Director at 83 Greene St. Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Submission of sealed bids is due at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 13 in the office of the Finance Director.

The sealed bids will be opened and read aloud on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m. at the North Smithfield Town Hall at 83 Greene St. Sold items must be picked up no later than Thursday, Dec. 16 by 4 p.m. The town of North Smithfield reserves the right to waive any or all bids, waive any informality or to reject any or all bids and to accept the bid deemed in the best interest of the town. Individuals requesting an interpreter for hearing impaired must call (401) 767-2200 ext. 307, 72 hours prior to the bid opening.

Paper stars

North Smithfield Parks & Recreation will continue hosting arts and crafts classes this week, creating 3D paper stars Thursday, Dec. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Hall at 101 Greene St. Children ages 6-12 may participate if accompanied by an adult.

Electronics recycling event

The North Smithfield Department of Public Works will host an electronics recycling drop off event at 281 Quaker Highway on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Items accepted include computers, TVs, monitors, printers, small household appliances, air conditioners, and more.

Many items are accepted at no charge but a $10 disposal fee applies to large wooden-boxed speakers, laser-jet printers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers and other coolant-containing devices.

Volunteers needed

The town of North Smithfield still needs several volunteers to fill openings on boards and commissions. Members are needed for the Asset Management Commission, Budget Committee, Economic Development Commission, Personnel Board, Planning Board, Public Art Advisory Committee and Sewer Commission.

Town meetings

The North Smithfield Town Council and the Halliwell Review Commission will hold a joint meeting on Monday, Dec. 13 starting at 6:45 p.m. at 83 Greene St, to hold a public hearing on the final presentation from Weston & Sampson Engineers on the property that holds the former Halliwell Elementary School. The North Smithfield School Committee will hold a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 14 at North Smithfield Middle School starting at 6:30 p.m. The agenda can be found here.
